Ottapalam is a town in Ottapalam taluk, Palakkad district, Kerala, India. Chinakathoor Pooram, an event held every year at the Chinakkathoor temple in Palappuram near Ottapalam, is one of the famous festivals in Kerala. Ottapalam was once part of the administration of Valluvanad Swaroopam. Valluvanad was a late medieval primitive state in what is now Kerala in southern India. The grand palace of Palakkad was built by the great Haider Ali of Mysore. According to the earliest historical records available, the king of Palakkad Achchan was a part of the Zamorin. The fort of Palakkad, one of the best-preserved forts in the state of Kerala, was built in 1766 AD and is now a protected monument of the Archaeological Survey of India. This picturesque fort is located on the foothills of the Sahyadris and is set in a maze of dense forests and cascading rivers.
