Nileshwaram or Nileshwar or Neeleswaram is a municipality and a major town in the Kasaragod district in the Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the three regions in the Kasaragod district; the others are Kasaragod and Kanhangad. Nileshwar is referred to as the social capital of Kasaragod, the northernmost region of Kerala. “
The Nileshwar Rajahs and the Bednore Nayaks fought in this area. This area, known for its “kavus”, the sacred forests, hosts the outstanding finale of the annual shrine festivals. The most famous of the sacred forests is the Mannampurathu Kavu.
