Matho Monastery is located southeast of Leh in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir on the banks of the Indus River. The village of Matho is located at the mouth of the Zanskar Mountains. It is opposite the Thiksey monastery. It is known for its annual oracle Matho Nagrang Festival, which takes place on the 15th day of the first month of the Tibetan calendar. Matho also houses a collection of thangkas from the past. There you can see very colourful paintings and a Sakyamuni Buddha statue. It was built about 500 years ago. Here you can see a wonderful collection of ancient thangkas. Here you can understand Buddhist teachings and philosophies. The main attraction of this place is the Stakna Gompa. So it is worth visiting this place once in a lifetime.
