Sheshnag Lake is an oligotrophic high altitude lake located on the way to Amarnath Cave 23 kilometres from Pahalgam in Anantnag district of Kashmir Valley in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir at an altitude of 3590 metres. It has a greatest length of 1.1 kilometres and a greatest width of 0.7 kilometres. It is believed by Hindus that Sheshnag is located on this lake even today.
It is one of the most important historical pilgrimage sites for the Hindus, as it lies on the way to Amarnath Cave. Sheshnag Lake is home to many species of fish, including the brown trout. It eventually freezes over and is inaccessible during this season due to heavy snowfall. It is surrounded by green, lush meadows and snow-capped mountains. Sheshnag Lake is one of the most famous tourist spots in the Kashmir Valley.
