Kodungallur is a community in the southwestern outskirts of Thrissur in Kerala, India. Kodungallur is located 29 km northwest of Kochi and 38 km southwest of Thrissur, on National Highway 66. The area is crucial in the history of India, as it was a notable trading post, most notably known as Muziris in the younger Chera nation. Kodungallur was an essential part of Mahodayapuram, the capital of the later Chera government. The Roman Empire maintained a constant trade relationship with this area. Besides pepper, goods such as pearls, muslin, ivory, jewels, silk, and perfumes were also shipped through the sea offices of Kodungallur.
