Kayamkulam is a town in the Alappuzha region of the Indian state of Kerala. It is located on the western shore of India and was once a center of maritime trade. One of the largest thermal power plants in Kerala, the Rajiv Gandhi Combined Cycle Power Plant, operated by NTPC, is located in Kayamkulam.
Krishnapuram Palace is very close by. Numerous old cashew production units are also found in the region. The Krishnapuram Palace, built in the eighteenth century, now serves as a gallery. It was built in the typical Kerala style and has the largest mural painting in Kerala.
