Kalinga War Memorial has located 5.5 km from Dehradun Railway Station, on Sahastradhara Road in Dehradun. This is the most important war memorial in the world built by an armed power for its enemies. The Kalinga War Memorial in Dehradun was built by the British. The Anglo-Gurkha War took place between the Gurkha officers and the British army in 1814. The Gurkhas from Nepal attacked the Garhwal area.
They captured Kalinga Fort in Nalapani but were eventually defeated by the British army. In the midst of the battle, the Gurkha warriors secured the Kalinga Fort in Nalapani for over a month and a half without drinking water or food. They were determined to fight to their demise and engaged in a fierce battle with the British army. Such strength and intrepidity were extremely inspiring to the British and they manufactured this devotion for the Gurkha soldiers.
