Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Delhi

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is both a Sikh temple and a tourist attraction in Delhi. This magnificent shrine was built to commemorate the visit of Guru Har Krishan, the eighth Sikh Guru in 1664. The Gurudwara is open round the clock and is an example of the generous nature of the Sikhs. This place of solace is visited by more than a thousand people in a single day.

The Gurudwara Bangla Sahib complex has a main prayer hall, a sacred Sarovar or lake, a secondary school, a hospital, the Baba Baghel Singh Museum, and a library. Those who come here are given ‘Kada Prasad’ and free langar or ‘community food’ is served at a certain time. The head must be covered when entering, shoes must be taken off near the entrances, and feet are washed with warm water before entering. There is also a ‘Yatri Niwas’ or house for tourists. The paath and shabads (the sacred chants), which continue for almost 24 hours, connect you directly with the divine power.
