Gurdwara Baba Bakala Sahib is a historical Sikh shrine located in the town of Baba Bakala in the Indian state of Punjab. It is a significant pilgrimage site for Sikhs and is believed to be the place where Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, was declared the successor of Guru Har Krishan Sahib, the eighth Sikh Guru.
According to Sikh history, after the death of Guru Har Krishan Sahib, the Sikhs were in confusion about who would be the next guru. Guru Tegh Bahadur, who was then living in the village of Bakala, was invited to Baba Bakala to reveal the true successor. However, he arrived in disguise and sat among the crowd of devotees. The crowd was unable to recognize him as the next guru, and many fake gurus claimed to be the rightful successor.
After several days of searching, a devout Sikh named Bhai Makhan Shah Labana recognized Guru Tegh Bahadur as the true guru and revealed his identity to the crowd. The announcement of the new guru took place on the rooftop of a house that belonged to a Sikh named Baba Makhan Shah Labana, and the site is now marked by the Gurdwara Baba Bakala Sahib.
The gurdwara has a beautiful architecture and is adorned with frescoes, paintings, and carvings that depict the life and teachings of the Sikh gurus. It also has a sarovar (sacred pool) where devotees can take a dip to seek blessings. The gurdwara is open to visitors of all faiths, and people come from all over the world to pay their respects and offer prayers at this holy shrine.
