Erattupetta is a town in the Kottayam region of eastern Kerala province, India. It is located 38 km east of Kottayam, the capital of the region, and only 13 km east of the town of Pala. Erattupetta was formerly known as Erappili and Erappuzha. The part “Eraaru” in all the different names comes from the topographical location where the two waterways converge.
Erattupetta lies in an ancient river course from Athirampuzha to Tamil Nadu. Erattupetta is a part of the Poonjar community where the people live.
