The Clock Tower, also known as “ghanta ghar”, is a very famous tourist attraction. It was started in the year 1948 and completed in 1953. The highly respected Lal Bahadur Shastri inaugurated the monument. It was a famous landmark of the city and was built by the British before India gained its independence. The clock no longer ticks today, but it is said that years ago when it was built, it was so high that it could be heard at the other end of the city.
The clock tower is located on Rajpur Road and is surrounded by numerous business centers. On the top of the tower is a golden plate with all the names of the freedom fighters who fought for the country’s independence and helped it to free itself from the chains of British slavery.
