Chandni Chowk, one of the oldest markets in Old Delhi, is the main thoroughfare of Old Delhi and a chaotic wholesale market lined with traders and porters offering a mediaeval bazaar experience. It is an important historical site known for the availability of goods and food of all kinds
Chandi Chowk is crisscrossed with narrow lanes where shops jostle for space, giving the feeling of shopping in old Delhi. Since the 17th century, this place has rightly been called the “shopper’s paradise” of Delhi. During the reign of Shah Jahan, a tree-lined canal ran through its centre, reflecting the moon. This gave rise to the name “Chandni Chowk”, which means “place of moonlight”. Shopping in Chandni Chowk is fun because the market is spread over several streets and these narrow alleys are flooded with a colourful variety of clothes, perfumes, electronic goods, jewellery, candles, idols and lifestyle goods.
