Idukki, Kerala

Idukki is one of the 14 towns in the Indian state of Kerala,1 established on 26 January 1972. At that time, the base camp of the locality was in Kottayam. It was shifted to Painavu in June 1976. Idukki is located in the Western Ghats of Kerala. Idukki is the second largest region in the country but has the lowest population density. Idukki has a vast forested area; more than half of the region is backed by backwoods. The urban areas are densely populated, while the towns are inadequately populated. Idukki is also called the vegetable garden of Kerala.
